Sale Of Farm Products Up 25% In Hunterdon With Help From County Economic Program
"I hear from farmers all the time, ‘we appreciate the county preserving farmland, but how can you help the farmers,’ which is why I am encouraged by the recently released U.S. Department of Agriculture census that shows annual farm sales are up 25% in the county.
The report demonstrates that the County’s Department of Economic Development and Tourism’s ‘Explore Hunterdon’ campaign is making a positive difference in promoting agritourism. And not only are annual sales up, but the same report shows a 23% increase in farm-related income, " Director Kuhl Said
579 Trail And Explore Hunterdon Programs Making A Difference
Deputy Director Susan Soloway, the Commissioner Board’s Economic Development liaison, stated, “The recent economic findings come along with the launch of the County’s ‘579 Trail’ and ‘Explore Hunterdon’ initiatives, which are directly targeted at promoting the county’s fresh produce, farm to table dining options, wineries, and on-farm entertainment for the whole family."
Over 37,000 Acres Of Farmland Preserved
"The Commissioners agriculture economic strategy is to save farmland, over 37,000 acres have been preserved, and to market the value of the products of Hunterdon County’s farmers. And it’s working, " Kuhl added.
‘New Era of Partnership’ Infrastructure Grants Awarded By County To All Hunterdon Towns
All 26 Hunterdon County municipalities have been awarded municipal grants from the County for various projects including stormwater management, tree management, energy efficiency upgrades, and ADA improvements to municipal facilities, County Board Director Jeff Kuhl has announced.
County Grants Are Helping Local Governments, Non-Profits, And Parks
As I announced at the January County Re-organization meeting, "The Board is engaged in a new era of partnership with our municipalities – helping communities and local taxpayers," Kuhl announced.
Deputy Director Susan Soloway added, “The municipal infrastructure grant program is one of three $1 million efforts to support local government services. One million dollars in awards to support county non-profit organizations were announced in the spring – and the $1 million municipal park improvement grants will be announced in the fall.”
Hunterdon’s Strong Fiscal Management, Tax Rate Cut & No Debt
Are The Keys To Success
"The Board has the ability to develop these programs due to the county’s financial strength and stability. The county tax rate has been flat for the five previous annual budgets, and, in 2024, was reduced to the 2015 level. Further, the county carries no debt," Kuhl stated.
Veterans Headstone Cleaning At Milford Union Cemetery On Oct 5
I encourage all who are interested to join in the next Hunterdon County Veterans Headstone Cleaning program on October 5th at the Milford Union cemetery.
The long running headstone cleaning program, where volunteers clean the grave markers for County Veterans at various cemeteries, has been most successful as we demonstrate our caring and respect for those who have served the nation and are no longer with us.
